Clark & Amel...the Simmons' Boys

The larger boy on the left must be my Uncle Clark and Amel, my Father is seated on the right. The boys are dressed alike for this photo. My Dad looks about 1 to 1 1/2 years old to me. What do you think?

Amel was never to know his Mother, Becca. It was about this time that Elliot, the boys father was to leave Missouri to go find work in Choteau county, Montana. The time of this photo was about 1917-8 when the First World War was taking place.

Elliot, Becca, and infant Clark

Elliot, Clark, and Becca are standing in the door opening as a photographer takes their picture. My uncle Clark was my Dad's older brother by about 1 1/2 years. This photo must have been taken in about 1914 as my Dad, Amel was not in the picture as yet.

Elliot Monroe Simmons...My Grandfather

Elliot is looking quite handsome in this photo. It could be that this was a photo of him about the time that he took Becca's hand in marriage. Elliot was the son of John Fielding Simmons and his wife, Belle.

Becca...the Young Bride

This photo very well may have been taken at the time of Becca's marraige to Elliot. Notice that she is all dressed in white and on the chair there is a large bouquet of flowers. The photo is quite formal and probably was taken at a photographer's studio in Salem.

Becca the Teenager

Here is a photo of Becca as a young lady. She must have been quite petite. I wonder what the occasion must have been for this photo as she definately well dressed. This may have been her "Sunday" outfit along with her special hat. Perhaps this is a graduation photo. I am curious where this photo was taken as the studio has a fancy rug, a very detailed chair, and an ornamental background canvas.

This photograph is of John A. McCarter, Tennesse Jane, and their young daughter Docia Rebecca McCarter, my Grandmother. The McCarter's had a farm in Dent County, Missouri that was south of Salem. My Great Grandfather and Great Grandmother were to have a very large family and they lived in Dent County for many years. However, I never knew the McCarters as Becca passed away when my Dad was just a few months old.

Docia Rebecca McCarter was my Grandmother. "Becca" was the daughter of John A. McCarter and his wife, Tennesse Jane Cotrell McCarter. She was to become the wife of Elliot Monroe Simmons and the mother of Clark and Amel, my Father. She passed away shortly after the birth of Amel in 1916.
